Which Canadian whisky should you give?

For a Canadian whisky gift, start with the flavours the recipient enjoys. Buying whisky for someone when you do not know whisky

Find one bottle they already enjoy. Ask someone close to them for its name, or look at a photo of their drinks shelf. Read that bottle's tasting notes: fruit and spice, cereal and vanilla, or oak and dark fruit give you a useful direction.

Then ask how adventurous they are. Someone who repeatedly buys the same bottle may appreciate familiar flavours. An enthusiast who seeks out different grains and age statements may enjoy a more specific discovery, such as a Canadian whisky made entirely from corn.

If all you know is that they enjoy whisky, Highwood 15 is our starting recommendation for its combination of honey, fruit, oak and spice. Choose 25 when you know that an older, oak-led whisky is part of the appeal. Choose 5 when wheat, cereal and vanilla are the better match.

Highwood 15 or 25 for a whisky enthusiast?

Choose Highwood 15 for someone drawn to orchard fruit, honey and baking spice. Its wheat-and-corn grain composition is a different proposition from either of the single-grain expressions in our range.

Choose Highwood 25 when the recipient is interested in older Canadian whisky and enjoys oak, dark fruit and a long finish. Its twenty-five-year age and 100% corn grain give you two specific reasons for the choice.

Whisky for an anniversary, birthday or retirement

A twenty-five-year-old whisky can make a personal connection to a twenty-fifth anniversary. Pair Highwood 25 with a short note explaining that connection and why its flavours suit the recipient.

For a retirement or significant birthday, consider what they would be excited to open. Choose 25 for an interest in older corn whisky, or 15 for a preference for fruit and spice. An Alberta connection offers another reason: all three bottles come from High River.

Choosing a Canadian whisky Christmas gift

Use the same taste-led choice for Christmas and holiday gifts. For an enthusiast, a short explanation of the grain, age or flavour you chose is more personal than calling a bottle “the best.”
